Most people know when something feels good on the skin. Fewer know what that fabric is really made of, or where it comes from. At HACOY we believe knowledge is power, and that choosing what you wear starts with knowing what you are wearing. Here is what is worth knowing, so you can make more mindful choices for your wardrobe.

What to ask about a fabric

Every fabric has a whole life behind it, from the way it is grown or made, through dyeing and processing, to how it is worn and cared for. The questions worth asking are where the fibre comes from, which certificate stands behind it, how it feels on the skin, and whether it is durable enough to stay in wear for years.

Fabrics to look for

Organic cotton. Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, soft and breathable on the skin.

Lyocell (Tencel). Made from wood pulp in a closed loop process, soft, breathable and cool to the touch.

Linen. From the flax plant, naturally durable and breathable. Perfect for warm days and relaxed living. The flax in HACOY linen is grown in France, Belgium and the Netherlands and is European Flax certified.

Hemp. One of the oldest crops we know. Strong and breathable, with a slightly coarse feel that softens over time.

Silk. A natural protein fibre known for softness and strength. Ours is woven in Como, a luxurious choice that fits a mindful, long lasting wardrobe.

Fabrics to approach with care

Conventional cotton is usually grown with synthetic pesticides and fertilisers. Polyester is made from petroleum. Viscose and rayon vary widely with the way they are produced. None of these are forbidden, but they are worth a second look.

One label at a time

You do not have to remake your wardrobe overnight. Start by reading the label, and ask where a fabric comes from and how to care for it. Choose brands that tell you what goes into every piece. Knowing what you are wearing is the first step to dressing in line with your values, and a well chosen fabric tends to feel better and last longer too. At HACOY, every piece has its own Meet your piece page.
