A piece you love feels easy from the first morning you wear it. Behind that ease is a great deal of work, and almost none of it shows on the tag. Here is what goes into a HACOY piece, and how you can keep it with you for a long time.

What goes into a piece

Every piece begins as a fibre. The flax for our linen Workwear is grown in France, Belgium and the Netherlands and certified European Flax, and our silk is woven in Como. Fibre becomes fabric, fabric is cut and sewn, and every seam takes a person's time and attention.

We make our pieces only in Italy and Lithuania. Our linen Workwear is cut and sewn in Vilnius, Lithuania. Our swimwear, sportswear, silk essentials and cupro pyjamas are made by a family owned atelier near Ferrara, Italy. The pieces are designed in Rome, and the Workwear in Munich.

All of this has a price long before a piece reaches you: the fibre, the weaving, the hours at the machine, the buttons and labels, the packaging and the way to your door. Where we have the full figures for a piece, its page in our shop shows them, from the making to packaging and transport, the VAT and what stays with HACOY. We would rather charge a price you can check.

How to keep it

A piece is made to be kept, and keeping it asks for little: a cooler wash, some air, now and then a needle and thread.

Wash less often, and cooler, than you might think. Linen likes 30 °C on a gentle cycle, turned inside out, and stays out of the tumble dryer; iron it while it is still slightly damp. Silk and cupro prefer a cold hand wash or the silk cycle at 30 °C, then drying flat. Rinse swimwear in cold water after every swim, wash it in a laundry bag and let it dry flat in the shade. Sportswear is happiest at 30 °C, without softener.

When something gives way, a seam, a hem or a button, send it to us. Repairs are on us for everyone who owns a HACOY piece. You cover the way to us, we cover the way back, and your piece is usually home again in about ten working days.

And when a piece no longer fits your life, let it go on to someone else. A pre-loved piece is still the same piece, and it deserves another wardrobe. Our own unsold pieces and samples stay in circulation too, through ReviveWear and Circular Orbit, and they are not destroyed.

What a piece costs is settled on the day it is finished. What it gives you grows every time you reach for it again.
