Nachhaltige Stoffe 101: Was Sie wirklich tragen
Most people know when something feels good on the skin. Fewer know what that fabric is really made of, or what it costs the planet. At HACOY we believe knowledge is power, and that choosing what you wear starts with knowing what you are wearing. Here are the basics, so you can make more mindful choices for your wardrobe and the world.
What makes a fabric sustainable
A sustainable fabric is one with a low impact across its whole life, from the way it is grown or made, through dyeing and processing, to how it is worn and eventually let go. The traits to look for are low water and chemical use, biodegradability or recyclability, ethical sourcing and fair labour, and enough durability to stay in wear for years.
Fabrics to look for
Organic cotton. Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, using less water, and safer for farmers and the land.
Lyocell (Tencel). Made from wood pulp in a closed loop process, soft, breathable and compostable.
Linen. From the flax plant, naturally durable and thirsty for very little water. Perfect for warm days and relaxed living.
Hemp. One of the oldest crops we know, quick to grow with little water, and good for the soil. Strong, breathable and naturally pest resistant.
Recycled fibres. Recycled polyester and regenerated nylon give existing material a new life and are a better choice than virgin synthetics.
Silk. A natural, biodegradable fibre known for softness and strength. Sourced responsibly, it is a luxurious choice that fits a mindful, long lasting wardrobe.
Fabrics to approach with care
Conventional cotton carries high water use and heavy chemical input. Polyester is petroleum based and does not biodegrade. Viscose and rayon are often tied to deforestation and harsh production. None of these are forbidden, but they are worth a second look.
Small changes, big impact
You do not have to remake your wardrobe overnight. Start by reading the label. Choose natural, low impact materials when you shop, and support brands that care about what goes into every piece. Knowing what you are wearing is the first step to dressing in line with your values, and sustainable fabrics tend to feel better and last longer too. At HACOY we choose certified natural fibres for comfort and durability.
